The Noel bar leaves such a striking impression that almost no one can even remember the establishment that was located here many years ago. With a well-thought-out offering of sweet treats and drinks, time passes somewhat slower here than elsewhere.
The Noel Bar is a new project by the Goran Kočiš and Ivan Jug, whose restaurant, Noel, quickly became the forerunner of the gastronomy scene of Zagreb. Ideally, the pair did not wish to intervene too much into the existing concept of the Blok Bar, which has its own loyal following. The intimate and lovable concept of a street cafe additionally refined by Jug and Kočiš’s international experience with high gastronomy and wine stewarding. This means that, besides just having excellent coffee, you can also get expertly picked wines that are great value for your money, try some fine cocktails made by masters of mixology, as well as try a light version of a meal from the kitchen of restaurant Noel.
Architecture project ex-Blok bar’s interior and exterior as well as branding was done by Penezić & Rogina with studio Filburg (ex-Fiktiv). The bar was simply pulled out towards the streets and their corner, and placed in a glass block, but does not seem intrusive, despite its contrasting position towards its environment. What is more, the hexagonal grid permeating the glass cube, like a honey-comb, provides an ethereal quality and warmth, inviting us to peek inside. The interior is small and pleasant, of about thirty square metres, dominated by bright colours and an unusual elevated booth that can only be reached by a ladder. The openness of the interior has enriched the immediate urban environment of the Blok Bar and reinvigorated the charming spring and summer terrace, which has become an oasis of relaxed living in the neighbourhood. With a well-thought-out offering of sweet treats and drinks, time passes somewhat slower here than elsewhere.
