Established in 2016, emge Collective is made of young enthusiasts, art history graduates and former students whose objective is to be active in various domains of culture in order to present diverse current trends and inspire thinking about them. In September 2016, they organized an exhibition of album covers created by independent authors from the region titled “Under Cover” at Pikto Gallery. “Kino 041” project, focusing on the situation with movie theatres in Zagreb, took place in 2017 as one of the projects presented at the Culture Fair and this edition for the Design District Zagreb Festival tackles the current situation with movie theatre in the district. The exhibition provides an insight in the architecture of former movie theaters around Zagreb and their present intended use. By using photographic archives as well as photographs and drawings of the current state of affair, the objective of this exhibition is to focus the attention on one segment of (past) cultural diversity and quality use of public space together with current urban tissue transformation processes.
Seven movie theaters inside of the DDZ zone will be marked on posters to remind of their history. The posters contain information on the history of a particular movie theatre, its current use and a schematized guide listing locations of other movie theaters. A walk along the district inspires thinking about the social relevance of traditional movie theaters but also about the way we presently define the public space.
