The name of the workshop “Architectural Critique in the Age of Twitter” has been borrowed from the speech made by Paul Goldberger, a longtime (1997. – 2011.) architecture critic of New York Times. However, instead of prescribing the role of a classic critic found in the speech (whose death has been announced in an ever-growing series of publications), the workshop questions it within an intersection of the current moment and with an analytical perspective on the media used by the critic. The workshop studies such phenomena as the specifics of the language of architectural PR texts (the unexplored jargon of the so-called International Art English) or the popularity of the way how independent cinéma vérité depicts architecture, by not using the usual tools of architectural critique but often wanting to criticize its inaccessibility. The workshop is intended for students of architecture, design, arts, and social sciences, who will, through the course of three introductory lectures – text, image, and social media – be familiarized with the rules of individual genres, with accompanying discussions to help them find the medium within which they can express themselves. The final product will be a critique of a specific object chosen collectively, in a form familiar to the attendee (text, photo, caricature, video).
The workshop is being held in the premises of Edwad Bernays First College of Communication Management, Ratkajev prolaz 8.
