In partnership with IKEA Croatia, the Design District Zagreb 2017 festival is organizing, for the second time, the Hacking IKEA competition, scheduled for June 13th and 14th, the first two days of the festival, to be held on the spot. The idea behind this project is to encourage thinking outside the standard frameworks of aesthetics and functionality, to let users individualize their furniture and customize it to fit their habits, needs, and desires. By “hacking” IKEA furniture they will be looking for ways to do this. The theme of this year’s competition is Modern Forms of Coexistence. Its aim is to, by refitting existing products, create objects that will facilitate everyday life in the context of personal rituals and habits that happen at home. All visitors will be free to view the hacked objects until the end of the festival.
Special notes: Competitors were selected through a public tender, which was available on designdistrict.hr, from 21 April to 19 May 2017. Members of he jury were mentors Nina Bačun and Ivana Fabrio, and representative of IKEA Croatia, Igor Štefanac.
