One of the more interesting locations in Lopašićeva Street is the art studio of the painter Tomislav Ostrman, Atelier Ostrman, where he exhibits and sells his own pieces and those of his colleagues and friends, alongside organizing small social events in this attractive workshop.
A resident of the neighborhood since birth, Tomislav Ostrman was a student of law in Zagreb, and graduated from Arthouse, College of Visual Arts in Ljubljana in the class of prof. Darko Slavec. He is currently enrolled in a postgraduate course at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb under the mentorship of Igor Rončević, who he worked for as an assistant during the academic year of 2013/2014. He is a member of CAA, and has so far had taken part in numerous individual and group exhibitions.
As part of his creative process, he researches the secrets of non-verbal communication using the methodologies of art, anthropology, and semiotics, and is especially interested in the natural phenomenon of whistling, which he turned into a story about The Planet of Whistlers (Planet Fućkalica). The story is also a part of his doctoral thesis, for which he came up with the Sailors & Whistlers brand, which is a continuation of his style of painting in the direction of usable objects. Examples of all the aspects of the artist’s work can be found in Atelier Ostrman.
