The 3,14 Gallery is oriented towards contemporary conceptual art, which makes it one of the most distinctive galleries in the city and a must-see spot.
In mid October of 2015, at the entrance to the inner courtyard of the residential complex ‘Little Vatican’, in the premises that used to be the home of a painting framing salon owned by the heirs of the well-known Zagreb Ulrich family, the 3,14 Gallery was opened, as one of the most recent galleries in the city. It is quite fitting that a private gallery dedicated to contemporary art would open just here, seeing as the Ulrich family was among the first Zagreb gallery owners. Their original gallery in Ilica, opened in 1909, was basically the hotbed of modern Croatian painting — for instance, it was here that Miroslav Kraljević held his only independent exhibition in 1912 (the gallery unfortunately closed in 2013, after 104 years of continuous operation).
Entrepreneur Branko Spajić, the founder of the 3,14 Gallery, decided to base the programme of his new showroom on the fresh works of known and less-known names of the Croatian art scene. The gallery was appropriately opened with the exhibition Zatvoreno—otvoreno (Open-Closed) by Goran Trbuljak, one of the most significant domestic conceptual artists, photographers and cinematographers. Other artists that exhibited or will exhibit in the 3,14 Gallery include Dubravka Rakoci, Dimitrije Bašičević Mangelos, Braco Dimitrijević, Vlado Martek, Mladen Stilinović, Vladimir Dodig Trokut, Igor Grubić, Sandra Đukić and others. The 3,14 Gallery is mostly oriented towards conceptual and pre-conceptual art, which makes it one of the most distinctive galleries in the city and a must-see spot.
