Mr. Fogg is the name of the protagonist of Jules Verne’s Around the World in 80 Days, but also of an imaginative bar in Martićeva Street, whose interior is inspired by the steampunk science fantasy genre, and the drinks it serves hail from all around the globe.
Emil Tocaurer, the owner of the bar, is a big fan of steampunk, a subgenre of science fantasy dedicated to “an alternate history which is different because the future happened earlier”, meaning – a more technologically advanced, exotic Victorian age, that is, the second half of the 19th century. At that era, the humanity’s faith in its technological progress was without end, whereas today, the memories from that era represent an imaginary world in which we can unhinge for at least a little while, enjoying ourselves in the delightful bar.
The drinks on offer are characterized, for example, by teas and rums from all over the world, gins from Scotland, Great Britain, Austria, Spain, Netherlands, Columbia, and Germany, high-quality domestic beer, and many others. The interior is rife with old machine parts, various antique and retro items fitted into a wacky, yet harmonious whole, and offers an atmosphere which cannot be found anywhere else in Zagreb.
