In her brief lecture that will serve as an introduction to the film by Gyz La Rivière titled "Rotterdam 2040", Sonja Leboš will talk about the future of European cities and parameters that define them, or the kind of urban environment we aspire to. Dutch artist La Rivière, from a very personal perspective, reconstructs the history of Rotterdam, as the centre of Dutch architectural culture, starting from the WWII bombing until the present day, at the same time developing a narrative structure for the future scenario until the year of 040. Gyz La Rivière is a Dutch artist who explores cultural and social signifiers to link them with his own visual databases created by the use of computer animation, video games, leaflets, TV news and many other media clips. Sonja Leboš is a cultural and urban anthropologist and the founder of the Association for Interdisciplinary and Intercultural Research. The lecture and the film screening make part of the programme named “City Steps”: NEW NOVI ZAGREB, created by the Association for Interdisciplinary and Intercultural Research in collaboration with the 2018 Zagreb Design District Festival. The programme is supported by the City of Zagreb and Kultura nova Foundation.
